Alice
This is our main and only character you physically see in the opening, her name is Alice, she is 17 years old and still goes to school. She is part of the normal teenage social group which makes the audience feel more sympathy for her as they can relate to her. The main costume design we wanted her to wear mainly white because this would best show her innocence which links with the convention of the “innocent girl in white”. However we did not want her to wear completely full white as it wouldn’t be realistic to the time and place she is in. Therefore we asked her to wear jeans and a jumper along with her white because this would best represent her social class and what group is a part of. Throughout the whole opening we decided that she wouldn’t say any words at all except the word “Hello”, this is because we were aiming for sympathy to become the main feeling for her however we were also trying to block this but not giving much out which the audience can relate to so this makes it incredibly difficult for them to understand what is happening to her and why which adds to the psychological twist.
